The Oakland Athletics agreed to a one-year contract with left-handed reliever Scott Sauerbeck who was charged with obstructing official business and permitting someone intoxicated to drive his vehicle. He and a woman were taken into custody after fleeing the pitcher's vehicle early on May 30 in northern Ohio and were found hiding behind bushes, police said.

Tampa Bay Devil Rays prospect B.J. Upton was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, media outlets in North Carolina reported Friday.

Upton, 21, who is playing with the Triple-A Durham Bulls, was pulled over at about 3:30 a.m. According to a police report, Upton was stopped for driving 51 miles per hour on a 30 mph zone. He was given a Breathalyzer test and registered a 0.11 -- above the 0.8 limit at which a driver is presumed impaired under state law.
